He is considered the founder of wildlife management. He was at first assigned to hunt and kill bears, wolves, and mountain lions in New Mexico in accordance with prevalent philosophy of human dominance. Leopold developed ecological ethics, giving respect and importance to the predators, which afterwards returned to their original habitat.
