Abstract

Fusaria and Macrophomina phaseoli was found to be the primary and dominant colonizers on both autoclave and freshly excised surface-sterilized root pieces. Species of Mucor and Aspergillus were capable of colonizing the autoclave root pieces within a day. A definite correlation was observed between amount of organic matter in soil, seasons and the number of genera of fungi occurring in the soil.
